If you are interested in learning the value of your rare books, I made a couple instructional videos that are on Youtube that explain what to look for as well as some rare book pricing databases. If you have any rare books you need me to look at or have specific questions about (yes, I know it gets complicated!), feel free to send photos to WeBuyRareBooks@gmail.com or by text to 646-469-1851.
I made a follow up Youtube video with another 5 books at modest prices for the beginning antiquarian book collector. There is the one of the first restaurant guides, a prison memoir, a Gilded age calling card etc. All proceeds benefit the ABAA’s Benevolent Booksellers’s fund to assist booksellers in times of need. There is also a plug for the upcoming VIRTUAL Brooklyn Antiquarian Book Fair
I made a short video on things that are missing from some Rare Books and what we can learn from them. I will discuss excised pages, expurgated, and defaced books etc. Many books that are incomplete or damaged are often passed over with little thought, but it is always good to ask if there is any hidden reason, motivation or history behind the loss.
I’ll discuss and value a rare 1600 French edition of the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili – one of my favorite books. It was this edition that firmly placed the famous and mysterious Renaissance book within the world of alchemy. If you like graphics arts, secret languages, and mathematical codes, this is a book for you.
